Controlled Lighting Highlights

June 1, 2009 at 8:14 pm (2009, personal, photographer, random)

Greetings!

It’s hard to believe that it’s already the first of June. At this time last year, I was getting fitted for my dress, checking my “to-do” list and anxiously awaiting my wedding weekend. This year, I’m anxiously awaiting my client’s wedding – my second wedding to photograph this year – and praying that they have a beautiful day like I did. I met with the couple yesterday and despite a few glitches in the process, they are upbeat and looking forward to a great day. Pictures to follow in the next few weeks!

June is also the time of year for winding down the school year. I finished my Controlled Lighting course a few weeks ago and have already started summer session, but realized I hadn’t shared many of my photos from class. Here are some of my favorites from the semester – for the most part, these are all straight out of the camera and have had no editing/Photoshop. It’s amazing what you can do with light!

And being somewhat of a “control freak” myself, I really enjoyed my Controlled Lighting class…now I’m itching to get some of my own lights and set up shop somewhere…anyone got a big empty (climate controlled, preferably!) building/room they aren’t using???

Lunch Hour Challenge

May 16, 2009 at 11:18 am (2009, personal, photographer, random, spring)

Hi faithful readers!

Gearing up for summertime sessions now that the leaves are out and the flowers are blooming. I love this time of year!

Now that my photography class is over and I’m preparing for my next wedding in a few weeks, I’ve been challenging myself to take photos every day. Or at least every other day. I’ve also challenged myself to get moving and exercise more. After sitting at my desk for a four hour stretch in the morning, I’m ready for a change of pace. So, after a quick lunch, I lace up my Nikes and head out for a quick 20-30 minute walk with my camera. It’s the perfect solution to achieve both goals!

At first, I wondered what the heck I could take photos of within walking distance of my job. Not to mention that high noon isn’t exactly the best light for photography. But the more I got out to explore the more I found – a graveyard, a church, flowering trees in the parking lot…it was a good exercise (no pun intended) in seeing what’s all around you. Here are a few of my findings on the first few outings…more to come!
